Frequently Asked Questions

A Certified Gottman Therapist has completed rigorous training in the Gottman Method of couples therapy, which is based on over 40 years of research by Dr. John Gottman. This approach focuses on improving communication, resolving conflicts, and enhancing intimacy in relationships through research-based interventions. A certified therapist like myself uses this method to help couples identify and address relationship issues in a structured, supportive environment.

I believe in a non-judgmental, empathetic approach that is personalized to each individual. I draw from multiple therapeutic modalities, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness, and the Gottman Method for couples therapy. I also prioritize cultural sensitivity, understanding that each person’s background and experiences shape their challenges. The goal is to create a safe, supportive space where clients can explore their feelings and work toward their personal goals.

I work with a wide range of issues, including: depression, anxiety, work-life balance, anger management, burnout, relationship issues, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), grief and loss, domestic violence, chronic medical issues, immigration challenges, intimacy issues, frequent conflicts, trust issues, financial problems, extra marital affairs, addiction issues, trauma, and abuse.

I use the Gottman Method, which involves a thorough assessment of the relationship to identify strengths and areas that need improvement. Together, we’ll establish clear goals for the relationship and apply evidence-based interventions to help resolve conflicts, enhance intimacy, and rebuild trust. I work with couples from diverse backgrounds, and I understand that each couple's challenges are unique. The Gottman Method helps couples learn practical skills that can be practiced in real life to improve communication and relationship satisfaction.

Yes, I have a strong appreciation for the cultural sensitivities present in today’s multicultural environment, particularly here in the Bay Area. Having been born and raised in India, I am attuned to the nuances of cultural diversity and bring this perspective into my work. I strive to understand and respect the unique values and experiences that each client brings into therapy.

I am the first Southeast Asian in California to complete the Gottman Method certification track. In addition, I have received training in:
- TEAM Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Domestic Violence Advocacy
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) #71180 in California, with extensive experience working in both clinical and crisis settings.

In your first session, we will discuss your goals for therapy, the challenges you're facing, and your background. I’ll ask a series of clarifying questions to get a better understanding of your concerns. This session is focused on establishing trust and rapport, so you feel comfortable and heard. We will also start to identify areas where you’d like to make changes and begin discussing possible steps toward those goals.
